Rick Nielsen was a highly underrated and unappreciated guitarist, in
my opinion. A lot of his best work was on the Live at Budokan album
but his abilities are also evident on this CD. This is an excellent
Compilation CD. It covers a great deal of Cheap Trick's career and
then some. It' starts out with a previously unreleased cover of the
Beatles "Magical Mystery Tour". It's hard to do a Beatles song justice
but they definitely did on this one and it was an excellent production
as well. We also have "Dream Police", "Surrender" and "If You Want My
Love". "The Flame" was a song they originally had reservations about
doing because they felt that it wasn't the type of song that was
representative of their style. But their change in heart led to
another hit song that ended up on this CD.
They also have the live
version of "I Want You to Want Me" from the Live at Budokan
(1979)
album. Also from the Live at Budokan album is their great cover of
"Aint that a Shame". To sum it up, It's a good mix: Covers originals,
live tracks, studio tracks and one previously unreleased track. I
don't think you can go wrong with this one. A close second to this
album would be Live at Budokan, just for the energy of the live
performance alone. |
