This is the first of a series of three "Man With No Name" movies
Eastwood starred in that were directed by Sergio Leone. Ushering in
the era of the "Spaghetti Western", A Fistful Of Dollars helped to
make Eastwood a box office superstar. Eastwood's character arrives in
dusty border town controlled by two rival groups of smugglers. Clint
pits the two groups against each other until there are none left.
One of my favorite scenes is where the man with no name (Clint)
tells a group of thugs that just shot at his mule, that the mule was
upset and should be apologized to. He was willing to overlook the
matter but the mule was somewhat sensitive about these things. They
of course laughed at him but Clint shut each of them up with a bullet.
Clint takes a serious beating in one scene but comes back to town
to set things straight, after healing a bit from his wounds of course.
The success of the film led to two more Leone Directed films starring
Eastwood: For A Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good, The Bad And The
Ugly (1966). Although the "Man With No Name" Films didn't make it to
the Unites States until 1967, Clint was already a superstar in Europe.
Seems Clint really made a name for himself after all. |
