El Dorado is an old sentimental favorite of mine. John
Wayne's character (who has been in more than a few gun battles) comes
to the aid of his old drunken sheriff friend (played by Robert
Mitchum) to battle ruthless and crooked cattle barons (headed by Ed
Asner). One of my favorite scenes is when Mitchum returns to the
saloon after having been mocked and laughed at on his previous visit
(for being a drunken mess) and butt strokes one of the guys who was
laughing at him. All while saying: "Come on Laughing Boy, let's hear
you laugh now!" Needless to say, Laughing Boy didn't find it nearly as
funny as I did. This movie shows how payback, western style, can be
fun to watch. A very young James Caan also stars in this film. |
