John Adams:
John Adams (1735-1826), Adams became the first vice president of
the United States in 1789 and later became the second president
of the United States from 1797-1801. In the years prior to the
American Revolution he joined with other patriots in opposing
British rule. In fact, Adams was among the first to propose
American independence, when the revolution began. He served on
the committee that drafted the Declaration of Independence and
then helped to persuade the Second Continental Congress to adopt
the declaration. Together with Benjamin Franklin and John Jay,
Adams helped negotiate the treaty of Paris, the treaty that
ended the American Revolution. |
