When playing the violin, it is easy to fall into some bad habits. Don't
feel bad, almost everyone has fallen into these bad habits. The key is to
acknowledge the bad habits and then find a way to break them. You want to do
this before it slows down your progress in learning to play the violin.
First, you need to identify the bad habit. If you don't already know what
this is, you can have a friend or family member watch you play and see if they
can determine the problem. To do this, you need to play a few different songs
through slowly and concentrate on what you are doing.
Remember, there is a cause behind every mistake. A lot of times, it has to
do with your posture and finger movements. Or, it could be as simple as not
practicing the song enough, so you haven't been able to get all the kinks out
yet. A major problem could be if you feel rushed. When a person is rushed, they
tend to become impatient and the problems just begin to role. Make sure to relax
when you are learning to play the violin. You can do some relaxation stretches
or meditation before playing. This will tend to help tremendously.
Once you have found the problem, you need to work through it. Start by
playing slowly and using your metronome. You need to pay attention and play the
problem areas through very slowly in order to get them done correctly. This will
take a lot of practice and patients, but it is well worth it.
Remember bad habits are hard to break. However, it is very important to
correct them as soon as possible. These mistakes can cripple your music for
several years. They will also slow down your learning. Go slow and take your
time. You will never regret it.
